A United Theological Seminary Leadership Conference
Deborah’s Daughters: Women in Ministry and Leadership Conference 2015 will be hosted by United Theological Seminary and held at Calvary Tremont Missionary Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio, where Rev. Dr. Harold A. Hudson, Senior Pastor and First Lady Billie Hudson serve as our hosts. Dr. Hudson also serves as Vice President for Enrollment and Associate Dean of Doctoral Studies at United.
This year's theme is Women Preach, Teach and Spread the Word and features a dynamic group of women presenters including leading national conference and workshop leaders, pastors, preachers, and teachers. This conference will benefit all women who serve in ministry.
Conference attendees will have the opportunity to attend one of the following workshops. These dynamic sessions will feature down-to-earth teaching and intimate conversation that will assist women ministers and lay women in preaching teaching and evangelism:
“Lifting as We Climb”:
Learn ways to support, strengthen and encourage clergy and lay women, all while cultivating a strong network of women.
“Get Your Own Oil”:
Discover the art of waiting and preparation in ministry.
“Women Preaching with Purpose”:
Experience preaching that has impact and provokes change in individuals and communities.
The Friday evening and Saturday morning worship services are free and open to the public.
Dr. Felicia LaBoy is a scholar, teacher, pastor, and community developer who believes that the ultimate goal of theological education is to always educate, equip and empower leaders to respond to and transform creatively the church and world. A business leader and entrepreneur, Dr. LaBoy is a recognized expert in the fields of faith-based community development, social justice, evangelism, racial reconciliation, and leadership development in community and professional organizations. In particular, Dr. LaBoy is known as one who interweaves her business and theological education and experience to create unique solutions that bring together diverse groups to develop a shared vision and work in concert to achieve better communities and organizations. She is often described as one who moves from the “seminary to the street, from the pulpit to the pavement,” in helping others to understand and utilize complex business and theological concepts to create solutions for communities and organizations.
Academic credentials include a B.S. in Marketing from Lehigh University, an MBA in Marketing and Finance from Duke University, an M.A. in Christian Ministries from Indiana Christian University, and an M. Div with a concentration in Evangelism, along with a Ph.D. in theology, ethics and history from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary.
An Elder in Full Connection with the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church, Dr. LaBoy recently completed 14 years of urban and multicultural pastoral ministry in Chicago. On July 1, 2012, Dr. LaBoy became the Assistant Professor of Evangelization in the Heisel Chair and Director of The Urban Center at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH, the only woman of color in the denomination currently teaching at her level in any UM-related seminary.
Dr. LaBoy is married to Adrian LaBoy. They are the proud parents three children and grandparents of eleven grandchildren. They currently reside in Blue Island, IL.
Minister Irene Wade serves as an associate minister at United Missionary Baptist Church in Dayton, OH. She is founder and visionary leader of Sisters Interacting Socially to Encourage and Restore Project (S.I.S.T.E.R.), a women’s prayer group established to meet the needs of women in the Dayton community. The group joins together in prayer in a weekly conference call with women from across the country. This group has also organized numerous projects that serve women and their families, including annual Christmas programs in which food, toys and other necessities were collected for families in need.
Min. Wade also serves as a board member of Young Women in Ministry (#YWIM) in which women ages 35 and younger serve their communities and provide support to women in ministry. Min. Wade holds a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management from Wilberforce University and is pursuing a Master of Divinity degree at United Theological Seminary. In addition, she serves as the student intern and research assistant for Dr. Felicia LaBoy. She has been married to her husband, Charles R. Wade II, for 14 years and they have two sons, Charles III, and Caden.
